CAPE TOWN - Firefighting efforts will be intensified as a blaze between Camps Bay and Llandudno is still raging.
The 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa had to be evacuated on Thursday night amid the encroaching fire.
Earlier we evacuated our hotel as a precaution, due to a wildfire on our beautiful mountain, all guests and staff are safe.— 12 Apostles Hotel (@12_Apostles) October 12, 2017
The blaze had been burning on the slopes above Camps Bay and moved dangerously close to the luxury hotel on Thursday night.
SANParks' Merle Collins says that more firefighters are expected to be deployed on Friday morning.
“The fire is still going strong. We have requested additional support from Working on Fire teams. The fire is high up on the mountains and has definitely spread to the back of Table Mountain National Park.”
Table Mountain National Parks says that the wildfire has burnt through a historic Muslim burial site.
It's unclear what sparked the blaze earlier this week.
Meanwhile, another fire has broken out on the slopes over Philip Kgosana Drive.
