JOHANNESBURG - The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA) says stricter measures need to be put in place to ensure the vetting process of guards are better controlled.

On Monday, a patroller was arrested for molesting 54 pupils from grade R to grade seven at an Orlando primary school.

The authority has launched its own investigation to determine whether the man was registered with them.

The regulator's director Manabela Chauke says a special focus needs to be placed on the vetting process of security personnel deployed to schools.

“We need to have a look at this and consider whether we should review some of our regulations. As an example, maybe people should be required to write certain examinations to determine if they’re fit for the job.”
