JOHANNESBURG - A group of African National Congress (ANC) members opposing the Eastern Cape elective conference has called on the national executive committee (NEC) to renounce the newly elected provincial leadership.

The group has written to the NEC requesting they declare the election results invalid.

The conference was delayed last week after being marred by violence, as some delegates reported that they were being unlawfully excluded from the vote.

A video, posted by local news agency the Daily Dispatch, reveals the violence that erupted during the elective conference in the Eastern Cape.

On Monday, an urgent application by the disgruntled faction to nullify the conference was struck off the roll.

Meanwhile, the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal is appealing a High Court order declaring its 2015 provincial conference invalid.
