Public Protector probes corruption in uMzimkhulu Municipality
Allegations of maladministration are believed to have been brought into the spotlight by former ANCYL secretary general Sindiso Magaqa.
DURBAN - The Public Protector’s office has confirmed its investigating allegations of corruption and abuse of public funds into the refurbishing of a hall in the uMzimkhulu Municipality.
Allegations of maladministration are believed to have been brought into the spotlight by former African National Congress Youth League secretary general Sindiso Magaqa, who died last month after being shot in July.
During his funeral, claims emerged that the hit on Magaqa was linked to him exposing alleged corruption in the municipality.
The Public Protector's spokesperson, Cleopatra Mosana, says: “Once the investigation is done the Public Protector will be issuing a report. In the meantime, the Public Protector has requested that no further expenditure of public funds be incurred, pending the conclusion of the investigation.”
The provincial ANC leadership says it will investigate claims made during Magaqa’s funeral service.
