Plans to build SA's presence at Toronto film fest
This year South Africa has four films - three feature films and a documentary - screening at the popular North American event.
TORONTO - The National Film and Video Foundation says it hopes to build on the country’s presence at the Toronto International Film Festival.
South Africa has four films - three feature films and a documentary - screening at the popular North American event, which continues until this weekend.
The foundation’s Peter Kwele says he hopes to carry the momentum from this year’s festival into next.
“Toronto 2017 has set the bar higher for Toronto 2018. We would not want to see only two films selected next year. We’ve set the bar high. We should see more films coming to Toronto."
He says investment remains the key challenge.
“The money we have from government is often not enough to push the productions to conclusion."
Kwele says this is one of the reasons why it’s important for local filmmakers to attend the festival.
