Probe into illegal dumping of abattoir offcuts & animal remains launched in WC
Some Robertson residents complained to the local municipality in March after experiencing a foul odour in the area.
CAPE TOWN - The Langeberg Municipality has launched an investigation into the alleged illegal dumping of abattoir offcuts and animal remains, on a compost farm near Robertson in the Western Cape.
Some Robertson residents complained to the local municipality in March, after experiencing a foul odour in the area.
This led to an inspection by local authorities.
Spokesperson for the Democratic Alliance's provincial Environmental Affairs and Development Planning Tertius Skimmers said in a written response, the company involved conceded to leaving a truck load of animal stomach contents that was discovered the following day.
“The fact that Langeberg Municipality has to be brought in this investigation, I would presume that they would investigate whether this was a once off or a repetitive action not only done by this company but by any other companies within the municipal area.”
