Athol Trollip: Bobani breached coalition agreement
UDM's Mongameli Bobani was ousted during a Motion of No Confidence this week, but his party has threatened to take the matter to court.
CAPE TOWN - Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Athol Trollip says ousted deputy mayor Mongameli Bobani was removed because he breached their coalition agreement.
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) councillor was ousted during a Motion of No Confidence this week, but his party has threatened to take the matter to court.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) claims forensic reports have found evidence of maladministration, fraud and tender irregularities involving departments directly under Bobani’s political authority.
But Trollip says that was not the reason for his removal.
“There are other issues. There are forensic investigations that have been taking place… those reports have been tabled, they’re going to be handled with due process in the municipality.
“But, councillor Bobani has been voting against us, so why on earth would you have a coalition partner vote against you? That’s why we got rid of him.“
