Holomisa: We’re out of that nonsense, they mustn’t bother us
UDM leader Bantu Holomisa says the Democratic Alliance (DA) can kiss their coalition in Nelson Mandela Bay goodbye.
JOHANNESBURG – United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader Bantu Holomisa says the Democratic Alliance (DA) can kiss their coalition in Nelson Mandela Bay goodbye if the party’s councillor Mongameli Bobani is not reinstated.
Bobani was ousted as Deputy Mayor in a Motion of No Confidence this week.
The UDM had demanded his reinstatement but the DA is refusing.
Holomisa says if they don’t, the partnership is over.
“Well, it depends on DA which has, on a number of occasions, acted unilaterally against the advice of other leaders. So we’re out of that nonsense, they must not bother us.”
Mayor Athol Trollip says Bobani has breached their co-governance agreement by voting with the opposition.
“Because he has voted against the coalition at every conceivable opportunity with absolutely no consequence from the UDM in that regard.
“So for all intents and purposes, we don’t have a coalition because our coalition partner UDM doesn’t vote for us.”
In a letter addressed to Holomisa, DA leader Mmusi Maimane made it clear his party will not work with Bobani.
Therefore, he suggests that the UDM nominate another councillor to serve on the mayoral committee.
But the party’s leader Holomisa says that won’t happen.
“We are not going to fool ourselves again nor are we going to allow ourselves to be used as a step ladder to the position of authority. We will pull out on Monday afternoon.”
Holomisa says his party will not be bullied by the DA.
