Sports Minister joins SA in congratulating athletes
Team SA bagged six medals, finishing third on the medal table, with Kenya in second place with 11 medals and the US leading with 30 medals.
JOHANNESBURG – Sports Minister Thembelani Thulas Nxesi has joined South Africans in congratulating Team SA athletes on their achievements at the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Championships which ended at the weekend.
South Africa bagged a total six medals – with one gold and a bronze medal from Caster Semenya, a gold and one silver from Wayde van Niekerk and another gold from Luvo Manyonga.
Ruswahl Samaai scored the last bronze for South Africa.
South Africa finished third on the IAAF World Championships medal table. The United States led with a total of 30 medals, followed by Kenya with 11.
Nxesi has also congratulated those who represented the country but didn’t manage to bring back medals.
President Jacob Zuma has also congratulated the athletes.
The President thanked South Africans, the technical teams and management of Team SA for their continued support to all local athletes.
