CAPE TOWN - One of the suspects involved in a shooting in Nyanga is under police guard in hospital.

The man was one of two gunmen who attacked Western Cape Social Development MEC Albert Fritz, his spokesperson and his bodyguards outside a church on Sunday.

The gun-wielding suspects demanded cellphones from the group while they were sitting in a car.

One of the robbers was shot and killed when Fritz's bodyguards returned fire, while the other was wounded.
A bystander who also sustained injuries during the shoot-out.

Nyanga community policing forum's Dumisani Qwebe says: “People are living in Nyanga because you never know what can happen. We’re trying to manage this but crime is bad in Nyanga.”
