JOHANNESBURG - African National Congress (ANC) treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize says the party shouldn’t spend more time protecting leaders who have allegations against them.

He says the time between now and the December elective conference is crucial and that the ANC should only think about electing credible leaders at that conference.

He was speaking at the Tshwane University of Technology last night at a discussion convened by the Young Communist League on whether the ANC could self-correct.

The treasurer-general says that the party has done enough introspection and credible leadership should emerge from the upcoming elective conference in December.

He says the party needs leaders who will unite visible factions and deal with corruption for the sake of the country.

“This conference must help us to resolve transformation and the renewal of the ANC.”

In his address, the Mkhize says the current state of the party stems from little political education which should be dealt with immediately.

He added that the ANC is not captured by any family but individuals who seek to enrich themselves.
