Ocean View residents plead for more police visibility
Community leader Sharon Daniels says residents can no longer live in fear and want to confront the problems.
CAPE TOWN - Residents of Ocean View are calling for more police patrols in the area following a spike in crime including the rape and murder of a 14-year old girl.
Cameron Britz was killed last weekend allegedly by her cousin while another 18-year-old girl was shot and killed that same week.
Residents say crime - apparently as a result of gang violence - has claimed the lives of 13 people this year.
A human chain was formed along Kommetjie Road yesterday to highlight the plight of the community.
Community organiser Sharon Daniels says residents can no longer live in fear and want to confront the problems.
“What are we going to do to support the families. We are traumatised with all the crimes that have been happening.”
Daniels adds they have to be part of the solution to fix their community.
“We can’t move out of the place because this is where we live so we become part of the solution or we remain part of the problem.”
