DIEPKLOOF – Family, friends and loved ones of Karabo Mokoena are holding a memorial service in tribute to the 22-year-old in Diepkloof, Soweto.

Mokoena's death, allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend Sandile Mantsoe, sparked outrage on social media recently with the hashtag #MenAreTrash causing debate.

Mantsoe has since been arrested and appeared in the Johannesburg magistrates court.

Her friends and family are streaming into the Diepkloof community hall where Mokoena's memorial will be held.

Her former school mate Yolanda Slamadien says she was a supportive friend and she will miss her smile.

“I’m going to miss how she always motivated us and always told us to push the hustle and always strive to be someone. She was into women awareness and against women abuse.”

Mokoena's uncle Tshepo says her family is still not coming to terms with her death.
