CAPE TOWN - The trial of a man accused of the rape and the murder of Franziska Blöchliger is set to start in the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday.

The 16-year-old was attacked while jogging in Tokai forest in March last year.

The court has heard she was raped and strangled, and also sustained blunt-force trauma during the attack.

Howard Oliver was one of the four men taken into custody shortly after Franziska Blochliger was found murdered.

Two of the accused have already pleaded guilty to charges relating to being in possession of the 16-year-old's stolen cellphone.

Charges against the other accused have been withdrawn.

Oliver's DNA has been positively linked to the crime scene and he's admitted to being part of the robbery but denies raping or killing the teenager.
