Lights on: Eskom says it is ready for winter

JOHANNESBURG - Eskom says it has no doubt that it has sufficient generating capacity for the winter months, meaning the risk of load shedding is low.

In recent months, the power utility has stepped up its maintenance and added additional megawatts to the power grid to ensure there's surplus supply for South Africans.

In the colder months of the year, consumers tend to use more electricity by switching on heaters and geysers for longer periods of time.

Eskom's Chose Choeu says they don't expect any problems this winter.

“Last year, we worked throughout winter. We have a surplus of electricity and we have given some to our neighbours. We are ready.”
