CAPE TOWN - The father accused of killing his three-year old twins could be sent for psychiatric evaluation following medical observation this week.

The Spaniard, Mario Yela, was arrested shortly after his ex-wife discovered the bodies in his Hout Bay apartment two weeks ago.

The Wynberg Magistrates Court has on Wednesday heard concerns over his health and emotional state.

Defence advocate William Booth says: “There were concerns raised about potential suicide, so that’s why I believe this has to be carefully monitored. We're hoping to have him accessed by Friday. So I’ll be in a position to decide whether or not we’re looking at psychiatric observation.”

The case has been postponed to Tuesday.
