Basic Education Dept probes ‘anti-ANC’ teaching claims
The department is investigating claims by Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma that learners in some schools are taught to hate the ANC.
JOHANNESBURG – The Basic Education Department says there is a ministerial task team investigating whether there is material used in schools to promote discrimination of any type.
Last week, Dlamini-Zuma addressed ANC supporters in Sasolburg in the Free State, saying that learners are taught that the governing party is corrupt and said the party must ensure there is transformation at schools.
The Education Department’s spokesperson Elijha Mhlanga says: "We encourage our learners and teachers to report if another teacher is teaching in a way that is not appropriate. That should be reported so we can put in place corrective measures."
