LONDON – Prime Minister Theresa May will trigger Brexit next week Wednesday.
Leaving the European Union (EU) requires the triggering of 'Article 50' which is the legal mechanism governing the departure.
Britain decided to leave the EU in a controversial referendum held last year.
Theresa may's finger has been on the Brexit trigger since she became prime minister.
“I want this United Kingdom to emerge from this period of change stronger.”
On Monday, her office is confirming that formal notice will be given to the EU next week.
This will kick off months of formal negotiations which will decide the terms of the divorce.
One of the first hurdles will be whether the United Kingdom is liable to pay billions of pounds for commitments it made before deciding to leave the union.
After months of protests, court challenges, and battles in parliament the real work for government is about to begin.
