CAPE TOWN – A Paarl man accused of murdering his pregnant girlfriend wants the media barred from his bail application.
Jacobus Oosthuizen has appeared in the Paarl Magistrates Court today.
He allegedly murdered his girlfriend Nicola Pienaar, who was six months pregnant, earlier this year.
Pienaar's body was found buried in a shallow grave in the accused's mother's backyard.
Oosthuizen sat with his head facing down as the media took photos of him after he entered the dock.
His lawyer then informed the court they intend to apply for bail.
The defence will also bring an application for Oosthuizen's bail hearing to be held in camera.
Both the defence and the State will file its reasons for the request in the coming weeks.
The magistrate will rule on the matter on the day of the bail hearing on 20 April.
