Andile Lungisa ordered to step down
There is uncertainty over Andile Lungisa’s future as ANC's top 6 ordered him to step down after he was elected ANC Nelson Mandela Bay chairperson last week.
CAPE TOWN – It's still unclear whether newly elected ANC Nelson Mandela Bay chairperson Andile Lungisa will abide by the party's directive.
The ANC's top 6 ordered Lungisa, who was only elected in the position last week, to step down.
This is because the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro councillor is also a PEC member and according to the party's constitution, he cannot contest elections in lower structures.
Lungisa refused to say whether he would step down and referred questions to the ruling party's leadership.
Eastern Cape ANC secretary Oscar Mabuyane says members have to follow the rules.
“The NEC is the highest decision-making body of the ANC in between conferences, so there is no way you can go against that.”
