DA still supports Judge Raymond Zondo, says Maimane
The DA says that while it has had a few differences of opinion with the ConCourt judge, it will still support his nomination as deputy chief justice.
JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) says that while it has had a few differences of opinion with Constitutional Court Judge Raymond Zondo, it will still support his nomination as deputy chief justice.
President Jacob Zuma said two weeks ago he would nominate Zondo to the post.
Zondo ruled against the DA in a case involving an SMS sent out just before the 2014 elections, but the Constitutional Court found in the party's favour.
DA leader Mmusi Maimane said: “My job is to make sure that ultimately we select the best judges for the country. The nomination came through a valid process, we’d look at other candidates as we go. We’ll continue to monitor that there are no judges that are compromised that get elected to the Constitutional Court.”
