Zuma says struggling municipalities will be aided
The president says premiers & council members have agreed to develop a strategy to ensure struggling municipalities generate revenue to deliver service.
PRETORIA - President Jacob Zuma says provincial premiers and members of the president's co-ordinating council have agreed to develop a strategy to ensure struggling municipalities generate revenue to deliver services.
Zuma was speaking after a meeting of the council in Pretoria on Friday.
The management of immigration as well as the back to basics programme to improve service delivery were among the items on the agenda.
Zuma says concerns were raised about municipalities struggling financially.
“And we need to do something to ensure that we develop the capacity, in other words, we include the economy of the areas like those. How do we capacitate them so that they have the revenue that is necessary to run themselves?"
