Sars probing illegal cigarette trade after massive bust
Sars says its officials confiscated almost 17 million suspected illegal cigarettes worth R18 million in Johannesburg.
JOHANNESBURG - The South African Revenue Service (Sars) is investigating a case of illegal cigarette trade.
Sars says its officials confiscated almost 17 million suspected illegal cigarettes on Friday.
It says the cigarettes, valued at R18 million, were seized in Johannesburg.
Sars spokesperson Sandile Memela says: "The possible duties in respect to these cigarettes amount to R11 million. A Sars investigation is still in progress."
