Gold Fields probing tramming accident after worker killed
Operations were suspended at the South Deep Mine pending a full risk assessment & inspection.
JOHANNESBURG – Gold Fields Mine is investigating a tramming accident, which has claimed the life of one of its workers.
Operations were suspended at the South Deep Mine on Thursday, pending a full risk assessment and inspection.
This is the second mining fatality at the operation this year.
Gold Field’s Sven Lunsche says, “It’s a worst time in a mine’s life to have an accident. We’ve had two this year. So we obviously have to renew our efforts to address the underlying causes of this.”
