SABC 8 among those who responded to Parly committee draft report

CAPE TOWN – The so-called South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) 8 were among those who submitted responses to a parliamentary committee tasked with investigating the public broadcaster’s board.
This was revealed during a meeting of Members of Parliament (MPs) making up the ad hoc committee probing the board.
Members discussed the responses to the committee's draft report.
Committee chair Vincent Smith says they have received four responses so far.
“Clearly, members felt that they had not received sufficient responses to merit a meeting today, tomorrow and Friday.”
Smith adds that he expects to receive submissions from the SABC and possibly The New Age newspaper by Thursday's deadline.
The question around who authorised the public broadcaster to apply for leave to appeal a Western Cape High Court ruling against former executive Hlaudi Motsoeneng was among the concerns raised by committee members.
But Smith has reminded MPs that the oversight of the broadcaster is the responsibility of the communications portfolio committee.
The committee will reconvene on Tuesday next week.
