Witness traumatised following JMPD cop shooting
The JMPD officer pulled a vehicle over during a stop-and-search in Roodepoort on Sunday night a passenger opened fire on him.
JOHANNESBURG - A man who witnessed a Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) member being shot in the head during a routine stop-and-search on the West Rand has recalled how the officer banged on his vehicle begging for help.
The JMPD officer pulled a vehicle over in Roodepoort on Sunday night and a passenger opened fire.
The suspect fled the scene, leaving the vehicle there.
An eyewitness, who wants to stay anonymous, says he is still traumatised by the shooting.
“I couldn’t sleep even for one minute. I even left the car at home because I can’t drive it. I need to clean it and I don’t where I’m going to start. He banged on the left side of my car screaming ‘I have been shot, I have been shot, I need help’ and I could see he was bleeding.”
The JMPD’s Edna Mamonyane says the officer is in a serious condition in hospital.
“We are calling on anyone who might have the whereabouts of those suspects to please come forward and help police with the investigation.”
