CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Department of Public Works says a section of the N1 will remain closed until eight o'clock on Sunday morning.

The N1 incoming between the R300 and Durban Road was closed down on Saturday night as part of the provincial project to expand the highway.

Detour signs have been put in place to redirect motorists around the closure and back onto the N1 via the Durban Road onramp.

Western Cape MEC for Transport and Public Works Donald Grant says, “The closure is required to safely remove overheard road signs and gantries as part of our department’s project to extend the third lane on the N1.”
