Interprovincial migration disrupts GDE planning
MEC Panyaza Lesufi says he plans to open a new school every month to cater to the large numbers of children coming into Gauteng.
JOHANNESBURG – Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says one of the biggest challenges facing his department is the migration of pupils from other provinces who haven’t received a solid learning foundation.
Lesufi says his department will invest more of its resources into this.
He says he plans to open a new school every month to cater to the large numbers of children coming into Gauteng.
“When we strengthen that part with Gauteng educational support, but when they go up to grade 5 there are many people that are entering the system that were not part of our foundation phase and that disrupts our educational commitment and the things that we want to achieve as a province.”
