[WATCH LIVE] Day five: SABC board inquiry underway

Board chairperson professor Mbulaheni Maguvhe is expected to testify at Parliament today.

CAPE TOWN – The inquiry into the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) board has entered its fifth day, with board chairperson professor Mbulaheni Maguvhe expected to testify.

The SABC board chairperson was scheduled to appear before the committee last Thursday.

However, Maguvhe stormed out of the hearings last Wednesday.

He claimed the committee bullied him and documents were not available in braille for him.

The committee, however, said the chair had never before requested documents be made available in braille.

The committee will also listen to the testimonies of the company’s secretary Theresa Geldenhuys, professor Bongani Augustine Khumalo and Madoda Shushu.

Parliament's ad hoc committee will sit for 11 days as it looks into the board's affairs and Maguvhe’s fitness to hold office.

Witnesses so far have painted a bleak picture of political interference, censorship and SABC funds being channeled to support the Gupta TV channel, ANN7.
