Suspect expected in court following Wombles restaurant attack
Gauteng police say the man is expected to appear at the Alexandra Magistrates Court on three charges.
JOHANNESBURG – A man accused of shooting and killing an employee at a Bryanston restaurant at the weekend is expected to appear at the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
Two men with a firearm and a knife stormed into the Wombles Steakhouse on Saturday night, stabbing the owner and shooting an employee to death.
The owner was rushed to a nearby hospital and was discharged on Sunday. One of the men was arrested on the scene while the other managed to escape.
Gauteng police say the man is expected to appear at the Alexandra Magistrates Court on three charges, including murder.
The police’s Lungelo Dlamini says, “While the suspects were fleeing, the one who had a firearm was arrested. The suspect is charged with attempted murder, murder and possession of an illegal firearm. He will be appearing in court.”
He says the man’s accomplice that got away is still on the loose and a manhunt has been launched.
Dlamini says although the police are not ruling out the possibility of the attack being an attempted robbery, the motive is still unknown.
