JOHANNESBURG - Police are warning South Africans to be extremely vigilant ahead of the festive season.

A Safer Festive operation is on Friday being launched across the country.

The programme aims to ensure the safety of all citizens.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has also cautioned against carrying large amounts of money, to avoid being targeted by criminals.

Spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo says they will increase the visibility of officers during the holidays.

“We will be conducting foot patrols, holding road blocks, coordinating search operations, there will be high visibility of police officers complimented by private security at shopping malls”
