JOHANNESBURG - Some female protesters at Wits University stripped off their tops and bras outside the Great Hall.
They demanded that police officers stop firing rubber bullets and stun grenades at demonstrators gathered on campus this afternoon.
The 'Fees Must Fall' protests at Wits have seen images of violence where the police used stun grenades, rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse protesting students.
Students also retaliated by throwing rocks and bricks at the police.
However, nothing could have prepared those gathered on campus for images and videos of three women, taking off their shirts and protesting half-naked.
Several police officers, students and at least one lecturer have been injured during confrontations on campus in the last few hours.
At least 10 people have been injured thus far.
Wits spokesperson Shirona Patel says the professor has been taken to the hospital for further treatment.
"Professor David Hornsby was injured and taken to hospital. We are still waiting for the results and we are investigating this matter."
STUDENTS DECIDE TO TURN TO OTHER ISSUES OF PROTEST
Students have divided into groups that will now go to different parts of the university.
They say they are going to fetch students who were involved in confrontations with the police earlier who are now hiding out.
Officers have taken a step back and are now allowing students to form a group and sing songs in front of the Great Hall.
