UCT boosts security upgrades following armed robberies
UCT says it’s invested millions of rands into security cameras following the robberies.
CAPE TOWN - The University of Cape Town (UCT) says it's invested millions of rands into security cameras following recent incidents of students being robbed on and off campus.
The university says while there are 350 CCTV cameras positioned across the various campuses, every corner can't be covered.
The university has urged students and staff to remain vigilant.
UCT's Elijah Moholola says: "We also keep up to date with the latest product for possible upgrades on campus.
"As a result of an ongoing effort to improve security on our campus in the midst of the city that is beset by violent crime, UCT has had a very low crime rate and most of the reported crimes have been of petty nature."
