Plans to repatriate Gugu Zulu’s body being finalised
Zulu died before summiting Mount Kilimanjaro, which he was climbing with his wife Letshego.
JOHANNESBURG - The Nelson Mandela Foundation has given an update on the tragic death of racing car driver Gugu Zulu, saying plans for his body to be returned home are being finalised.
Zulu died before summiting the Mount Kilimanjaro, which he was climbing with his wife Letshego, to support the Trek4Mandela initiative.
The foundation says its CEO, Sello Hatang, is now with Letshego in Tanzania.
It says the news of his death was delivered to the rest of the team yesterday and left them devastated.
They are now making their way down the mountain and are due to return to South Africa tomorrow evening.
The foundation says it is receiving a lot of support from authorities, diplomatic missions and corporates like the South African Airways.
It is not yet clear when Zulu's body will be flown home, while plans for his memorial service are still being made.
