DURBAN - African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) supporters are preparing to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the June 16 Soweto uprising at the Absa Stadium in Durban today.
President Jacob Zuma and the youth league's president Collin Maine are expected to deliver the keynote addresses.
Zuma will start outside the ANC offices in KwaZulu-Natal where he will launch an election countdown watch.
Provincial spokesperson Mdumiseni Ntuli says, "It's going to help us to understand how many days there are until the election."
Ntuli says it's all systems go for the today's rally and the party is confident it will fill the 55,000-seat stadium.
"The rally is going to energise young people and ensure that we have them ready for the elections ahead."
The youth league says it will also celebrate its former leaders except Julius Malemas, adding that the Economic Freedom Fighters leader betrayed the movement.
