Study: MTN records highest number of consumer complaints
The Consumer Ombudsman says the high number of complaints against MTN was a result of a strike.
JOHANNESBURG - The Consumer Goods & Services Ombudsman's (CGSO) latest report reveals that the highest number of complaints received between 2015 and 2016 have been against MTN.
The ombudsman holds a record of 613 grievances made by the mobile network consumers between March 2015 and February 2016.
The CGSO states, however, the number of complaints made about other cellphone networks only reflected those made to July, as they stopped dealing with complaints relating to the network providers due to their refusal to work with the CGSO.
It says the high number of complaints against MTN was a result of the strike.
Last July, employees abandoned their posts for eight weeks after demanding a 10 percent wage increase.
The impact on the company's call and service centres saw many MTN subscribers facing lengthy delays to have their contracts, billing issues and other queries attended to.

Around 3,495 cases were opened with the ombudsman until February this year.
