WC social development dept receives over R1.9 billion for 2016/2017

CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Social Development MEC Albert Fritz says his department has received more than R1.9 billion for the 2016/2017 budget year.
Fritz delivered his department's budget speech in the Western Cape Legislature today.
The MEC says his department's budget has increased by more than R62.5 million.
He says his budget priorities are guided by mainly two strategic goals: improving education outcomes for youth development and increasing efforts to tackle social ills and safety.
More than R615 million has been allocated to the social development's children and families programme, while approximately R200 million is being invested in child care and protection services being rendered by social workers across the province.
About R284 million has been set aside for child youth care centres in the Western Cape.
