First snow of winter falls in Ceres
The area received its first snowfall of 2016 this weekend when a cold front descended on the WC.
CAPE TOWN - The Matroosberg Private Nature Reserve in Ceres says snow has fallen on the mountain tops about a week earlier than usual.
The area received its first snowfall of 2016 this past weekend, when a cold front descended on parts of the Western Cape, bringing with it heavy rainfall and gale force winds.
The reserve's Didi De Kock said, "It is a very good start for winter and we are quite pleased with the amount of snow. Because of the ground temperature the snow melted very fast as it's just after summer and the ground is still very warm. The snow that's melting now will cool the ground temperature down, so with the next snowfall it will last longer."
Scores of Capetonians flock to the reserve during winter every year to experience the snow.
"We are very excited about winter and are hoping that this was a good kickoff to a snowfall winter."
