JOHANNESBURG - New information has emerged around the death of a 12-year-old boy who was killed in Malvern allegedly by his 10-year-old friend.
The pair are believed to have been arguing when the one boy took a steel rod and hit the other on the back of his head.
Police arrested the child but have since released him into his parents' care.
It's believed the 10 and 12-year-old boys had been arguing on Friday and the tension spilled over into the next day.
The 10-year-old allegedly took a steel rod from his home and hit his friend on the head; he apparently collapsed on a pavement near his home soon after the incident.
The family of the victim say he was the only child and the parent went to the mortuary earlier today.
The accused also appeared in court today and is under the authority of child protection services.
