JOHANNESBURG - Ekurhuleni mayor Mondli Gungubele says the city is fortunate to have reached an understanding with the taxi industry over its new Harambee bus system.

Gungubele says information about bus routes and fares will be released before then.

He says a team is still mediating talks between the city and the taxi industry and it’s hoped a final deal will be struck soon.

“Today we are still enjoying a huge support from the taxi industry. We have had a lot of trips with them and did a lot of comparative

The Harambee project will see transit corridors being created to connect places of work, sleep and play.

The mayor says eventually provincial authorities want to connect the whole of Gauteng.

“This thing of Harambee, Rea Vaya and A Re Yeng; we want it to convey into what we call a single transport government.”

The buses will cover routes that link Tembisa, OR Tambo International Airport, Boksburg and Vosloorus.
