Polokwane Sars official rescued after abduction nightmare
The Hawks rescued the 36-year-old woman after a shootout with her abductors.
JOHANNESBURG - The Hawks have rescued a South African Revenue Service (Sars) official who was kidnapped by three gunmen.
The 36-year-old woman was abducted from her home in Nirvana in Polokwane on Tuesday.
The Hawks say the woman was about to park her car when the trio grabbed her, blindfolded her and then drove off with her.
Spokesman Hangwani Mulaudzi says the kidnappers made contact with the woman's family and demanded a sizeable ransom.
"As they were coming they saw that we were around. There was a shoot-out between police and the suspects. Three of our members were shot and injured lightly. However, our main aim was to rescue the kidnapped lady, which we did."
The woman is recovering in hospital while police search for her kidnappers.
