Firefighters prevented from battling blaze in Khayelitsha
Enkanini informal settlement residents apparently stoned Fire & Rescue Service vehicles this morning.
CAPE TOWN – Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service says its personnel have been prevented from responding to a blaze as residents stoned their vehicles in the Enkanini informal settlement in Khayelitsha. The extent of damage in #EnkaniniFire has not yet been determined after emergency crews were forced to retreat due to safety concerns. NM
It’s understood community members turned on the firefighters before they were able to douse a shack fire last night.
The service’s Theo Layne says no injuries have been reported.
“The vehicle sustained some damage and the crew was not injured. The incident was lodged with the police.”
