Shamonique Claasen laid to rest in Paarl
Hundreds have arrived to bid farewell to the 10-year-old who’s being laid buried today.
CAPE TOWN - The classmates and teachers of a slain 10-year-old girl from Paarl are still reeling with shock.
Today, hundreds arrived to bid farewell to Shamonique Claasen as she was laid to rest at the Klein Parys Cemetery.
Learners and teachers from Dalweide Primary School formed a guard of honour, flowers in hand, as Claasen's casket was carried to the gravesite.
Some of Claasen's classmates consoled each other as they cried while singing.
They've described her as a helpful and friendly girl.
The school played an integral part in helping Claasen's family search for the girl when she went missing a day before her birthday on 27 February.
Her body was discovered wrapped in blankets and stuffed in a black bag in a relative's home two days later.
