Gang could be responsible for robbing students in Auckland Park
Police say it appears the trio were part of a gang who were terrorising people in Auckland Park.
JOHANNESBURG - An investigation is underway after a group of students were robbed at gunpoint in Auckland Park.
Three suspects were shot and killed after a shootout with police on the Soweto Highway yesterday.
Police recovered the stolen belongings along with two unlicensed firearms.
Spokesperson Tshekiso Mofokeng has asked for anyone with information to come forward as they believe the trio were part of a gang.
"It seems that this was a trend and these people were terrorising the area. We are appealing to the community in that area to report more crimes if there are any of these incidents that are happening to them."
During a separate incident last week, a suspect was killed in a shootout with police on the N12 near Kempton Park.
Police had stopped the group's BMW which matched the description of a hijacked vehicle, which led to the clash.
Police are now searching for two other suspects believed to be involved in the armed robberies of people travelling to and from OR Tambo International Airport.
