CAPE TOWN - Stellenbosch University management is assessing the damage to one of its buildings following a violent protest last night.

A handful of demonstrators started a fire inside an admin building.

A car was also torched.

It's understood the protest is related to outsourcing at the university.

The institution’s Martin Viljoen said, “The information I have now at the moment is that petrol was used to set alight a room in the basement of the building on the front side of the admin building.”

Lectures haven't been affected.
