JOHANNESBURG – Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has been spotted in economy class on an SAA flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg.

Ramaphosa was returning from Parliament earlier today where he was answering questions from Members of Parliament.

The deputy president's spokesperson, Ronnie Mamoepa, says Ramaphosa took an ordinary flight to show his confidence in State-owned enterprises.

Mamoepa says it's also government's way of leading by example in the current tough economic climate.

“As a political leader, you have to make hard political choices in the current economic climate and in the government’s efforts to show prudency in the use of State funds.”

Last month, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan was also spotted flying economy class to Johannesburg after his budget speech.
