JOHANNESBURG - The Johannesburg Metro Police Department has warned motorists to use alternative routes in Sandton as two sporting events have resulted in numerous road closures.

The Hyundai Rock the Run started this morning and roads including Fredman Drive and Rivonia Road have been closed.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department's (JMPD) Wayne Minnaar says the roads will be closed until 11am.

“Linden Road is blocked off between Rivonia and Grayston Drive. Rivonia Road is blocked off between Thirdman and West as well as Pretoria Street between Catherine and Rivonia Road. These roads will be reopened at 11am today and motorists are requested to look out for runners.”

At the same time, the second T20 between South Africa and Australia takes place at the Wanderers today.

Minnaar says Corlette Drive will be closed until 7pm.

“Corlette Drive will be blocked off in front of the Wanderers Cricket Stadium today for the international game. The road closure will remain in place until 7pm. Motorists can use Oxford Road and North Road as alternative routes.”
