JOHANNESBURG – The University of Johannesburg has launched an internal investigation into claims about an ex SRC member who has scammed students into paying nearly R2,000 each for a place at the institution.

A whistle-blower has come forward claiming more than 40 people have fallen victim to the scam after being approached by a young man promising to have them registered under a course of their choice.

The university says it’s taken the matter 'very seriously’.

Spokesperson Mpho Letlape says, “We became aware of it on social media today and we are in the process of investigating that.”
