CAPE TOWN - An anti-bus Rapid Transit Service march is currently underway in the streets of George.

Taxi operators opposed to Go George bus service have been joined by members of the African National Congress (ANC) in the march to the local municipal offices.

They also stopped at the regional offices of the Western Cape Transport Department to protest what they say is unfairly rejected of their applications for minibus operating permits.

The police’s Malcolm Pojie says Public Order Police are keeping an eye on the demonstrators.

“Approximately 50 taxis are participating in this march and about 50 people are on foot. No incident has been reported and we are monitoring the march closely.”

Because of the march, the George Municipality has suspended Go George operations until later today.
