Gordhan saga may impact petrol price
An economist says the saga between the finance minister & the Hawks has already taken a knock on the markets.
JOHANNESBURG - Economist Dawie Roodt says the political uncertainty created around minister of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan will most likely see an increase to the price of petrol
While the Department of Energy Yesterday announced a 69 cents drop in the petrol price, Roodt says the good news will be short lived.
The has attributed the decrease in the petrol price to a stronger rand.
"With the rand at what it is at the moment and prices slightly higher as well as new taxes announced by the minister of finance, I'm afraid there's only one way for the petrol price over the next two or three months. Prepare for quite a nice increase."
Roodt also says the saga between the Hawks and the Finance Minister will and already has taken a knock on the markets.
"What we certainly need is more clarity on what is going to happen in the Department of Finance, I'm referring specifically to Sars around the Sars boss, the minister of finance and what's going to happen to the president himself."
